Gahar Ali Khan is the new chairman of Imran Khan's party PTI

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday elected Barrister Gahar Ali Khan as its new chairman. Earlier Imran Khan nominated him.

On Saturday, voting was held to elect the office bearers of several posts of the party. After the vote, PTI Chief Election Commissioner Niazullah Niazi said that Barrister Gahar Ali Khan was elected unopposed as the chairman in the inter-party elections.

He also said that Omar Ayub Khan has been elected as the Central Secretary General of PTI. Ali Amin Gandapur Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial President and Dr. Yasmin Rashid has been elected as the President of Punjab. In Balochistan, Munir Ahmed Baloch’s panel was elected unopposed. Apart from this, Halim Adil Sheikh was elected PTI president unopposed in Sindh.

National elections are scheduled to be held in Pakistan on February 8. But when there was uncertainty about PTI’s participation in that election under the leadership of imprisoned Imran, the party organized inter-party elections. In that context, Gahar Ali Khan has been elected as the new chairman.

While talking to reporters in Peshawar, Barrister Gahar said that he will take over as party chairman as Imran Khan’s representative.

He said, ‘We will take the country forward. But as long as I am here, I will serve as Imran Khan’s representative. Because he is imprisoned due to political struggle.

The party’s new chairman expressed regret and said, ‘No other party has faced such elections like PTI. The court did not look into the receipt of foreign funds by other parties.

Barrister Gahar alleged that many cases have been filed against party leaders. He said, “Many leaders of the party are still in hiding or in prison.”

Election Commissioner of PTI Niazi said, ‘PTI is the only party in Pakistan where democracy is practiced. The Election Commission of Pakistan ordered the election to be held within 20 days and the PTI accepted the polls as per the constitution.
