Pakistan’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has stepped down just two days after the conclusion of the World Cup. The former South African fast bowler had taken over the coaching role from Shaheen Shah Afridi in June last year.

Speculations surround Morkel’s resignation, with some attributing it to the perceived underperformance of Pakistani pacers during the World Cup. While Shaheen Afridi emerged as the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan, criticism lingers for not delivering crucial breakthroughs when needed.

Notably, Morkel’s contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was initially set for six months, concluding next month. However, he chose to resign ahead of the completion of his term. Pakistan is scheduled to tour Australia for a three-match Test series in December, where new faces may step in to work with players like Afridi and Haris Rauf.

This move follows a trend, as another South African, Allan Donald, recently vacated the position of the bowling coach for Bangladesh. The dynamics of coaching roles in international cricket continue to evolve, and Morkel’s departure adds another chapter to this ongoing narrative.
